After four rounds in a March Madness-style tournament against 15 other North American cities, Brattleboro won the title Strongest Town in North America on April 14. Voters from an international audience of millions selected Brattleboro to win the eighth annual Strongest Town Contest based on its dedication to Strong Towns principles, such as transparent local accounting, building safe and productive streets, encouraging incremental housing, eliminating parking mandates, and ending highway expansions. On October 6, Strong Towns published a video feature on YouTube showcasing what it is that makes Brattleboro unique.

The taxpayers of the Town of Brattleboro are hereby notified and warned that Real Estate and Personal Property Taxes assessed upon the Grand List of 2023 are now due and payable to the Town Treasurer at the Treasurer’s Office in the Brattleboro Municipal Center, 230 Main Street, Suite 111, Brattleboro, Vermont, in four equal installments as follows: 1st Installment due August 15, 2023; 2nd Installment due November 15, 2023; 3rd Installment due February 15, 2024; 4th Installment due May 15, 2024.
BFD Issues Warning Regarding Lithium-Ion Batteries
The Brattleboro Fire Department is issuing a warning regarding lithium-ion batteries in the wake of an accidental fire that occurred in an e-bike repair shop in New York City on June 20. The fire, which killed four and left left two in critical condition, was caused by lithium-ion batteries igniting on the first floor of a six-story building. In addition to powering e-bikes and e-scooters, lithium-ion batteries are found in common household items, such as smartphones, laptops, vape pens, and power tools. Town Departments Go Green with Electric Gear
Earlier this year, the Town of Brattleboro made strides toward environmental sustainability by transitioning some of its gas-powered handheld tools to eco-friendly, electric-powered alternatives. By adopting greener gear, the Town aims to significantly decrease its carbon footprint.
Listen to the Debut Episode of Podcast "Town Matters"
The Town of Brattleboro is pleased to announce the launch of its first-ever podcast, "Town Matters." Hosted by Town Manager John Potter, this new series will provide listeners with brief updates about town government. The show aims to inform the public and encourage active participation in local affairs. "Town Matters" will be published during the week between Selectboard meetings and provide a brief overview of the previous meeting along with a preview of the next one. As the show develops, staff hope to incorporate other updates from around town and feature guest hosts.
