Finance Department
The Finance Department is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m.
The Finance Department and Treasurer's Office are involved in virtually every service that is delivered in town. We provide all the financial support for every project initiated – from debt origination, payment processing to financial report preparation.
The primary functions include:
- Payment of all invoices and payroll obligations
- Proper accounting of all revenue, expense and general ledger transactions for all funds for the Town
- The coordination of all audit efforts for the Town CPA firm and any and all State or Federal Grant audits
- Budget preparation and assistance with annual Town Report
- Tax Sale proceedings
Treasurer's Office
Water & sewer bills are mailed quarterly one month prior to the due date and are due the same day as taxes.
Tax bills are mailed once a year in July and have four quarterly coupons attached. Please send in coupon with the payment to ensure proper posting. Visit the State's website to learn more about tax bills in Vermont.
Recycling & Compost Bins
Brattleboro residents can purchase recycling and compost bins at the Finance Department, located in Suite 111 of the Municipal Center. Recycling bins cost $15; compost bins cost $30. You may use your credit card in the office to purchase a recycling or compost bin. There is a 2.7% + $0.05 fee to use your card.

News & AnnouncementsThe Town of Brattleboro has named SerahRose Bissell as its new Finance Director. Bissell brings extensive experience in financial management, accounting, and organizational operations.
The Brattleboro Finance Department will close at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026. Please plan accordingly.
The Finance Department is reminding the public that any amount unpaid after 5 p.m. on May 15, 2026, will have an 8% penalty and a 1% interest charge.
The Finance Department will be closed to the public in the afternoon on March 30.
The Town Manager's Office and Finance Department will have irregular hours during the last two weeks of the year.
The Town of Brattleboro will submit a request to the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development to release the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.
