Birth, Death & Marriage Records
There are 3 ways to obtain vital record copies.
1. In-Person at the Town Clerk’s Office
Fill out an application form, present a valid, unexpired ID (acceptable ID is listed on the form), and make a payment. cash, check, or credit/debit card accepted.
2. By Mail
Birth or Death certificate, complete Application for Certified Copy of Vermont Birth or Death Certificate fillable form.
- Fill out your information at the top of the form in the "Applicant" section – the person completing the form is the applicant.
- Use the middle section for details about the person named on the certificate (the person whose record is being requested).
- include a copy of your ID.
- By law we can only issue birth and death certificates to eligible applicants. These relationships are listed on the front of the form.
Marriage or Civil Union records, complete the Application for a Marriage or Civil Union Record fillable form.
- Mail the completed form, and ID if required, with a check or money order payable to ‘Brattleboro Town Clerk’.
3. Online
Click here to log in to the OpenGov Portal. If you don’t have an OpenGov account, you’ll need to create one using your email address. Payment will be made with credit or debit card when the application is submitted.
Fees
- Certified Copies: $10 each
- Uncertified (informational only; genealogical copies): $2 each
Fulfillment
- Requests submitted By Mail or Online: Certified copies will be mailed via first-class mail within 1-3 business days of receipt of the application, ID, and payment confirmation.
- Uncertified copies ordered online will be emailed upon payment confirmation, unless otherwise specified during the ordering process.
- In Person at the Clerk's office: Copies requested in person will be made while you wait, typically within 15 minutes.

Closed on holidays, election days and the day following the election.
Refund Policy
If we are unable to fulfill your request, credit card payments will be refunded to the original card within 30 days of payment. For requests mailed in with a check or money order, we will contact you and then either shred or mail back the check as you prefer.
