EMS Billing

Overview

Welcome to the EMS Billing information page for the Brattleboro Fire Department. Our goal is to provide the highest quality emergency medical services to the residents and visitors of Brattleboro. This page contains essential information about our EMS billing process, what to expect, and how to handle any questions or concerns you may have.

Billing Process

When you receive emergency medical services from the Brattleboro Fire Department, first responders will make emergency treatment and ambulance transport determinations without regard to the cost of such services, or the ability of patients to pay for such services. After your emergency has been addressed, our team will collect your insurance information and other necessary details. We will then bill your insurance provider directly. You may also receive a statement for any co-pays or amounts not covered by your insurance.

The EMS Billing Policy is described as a compassionate approach which means that the direct financial impact on the Town’s residents is minimized as much as possible.

Insurance and Coverage

The Brattleboro Fire Department accepts most major insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. It is important to provide accurate and up-to-date insurance information at the time of service to ensure proper billing. If you have any changes to your insurance coverage, please inform our billing department as soon as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Why did I receive a bill?

If you receive a bill, it means that your insurance provider did not cover the full cost of the emergency medical services provided, or that you do not have insurance coverage. The bill reflects the remaining balance that you are responsible for.

What are your fees for service?

Ambulance service fees will be set by the Selectboard. The following is the schedule of fees and charges:

EMS Transports = $1,400
EMS Treatment, No Transport = $300
Paramedic Intercepts = $150
Mileage (loaded per mile) = $22

What should I do if I can't pay my bill?

We understand that medical expenses can be unexpected and challenging. If you are unable to pay your bill, please contact our billing department as soon as possible. We can offer payment arrangements.

How can I pay my bill?

You can pay your bill by phone or by mail to our billing contractor. If paying by mail, please send your payment to the address listed on your statement.

Who can I contact if I have questions about my bill?

If you have any questions or concerns about your bill, our third-party billing department is there to help. Please contact Golden Gross Ambulance at 800-439-0466. They are available Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM.

How will my privacy be protected?

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) ensures patient information is protected. The Town will be a covered entity under HIPAA’s privacy and security regulations and will continue to adhere to these standards. Please find our Notice of Privacy Practices here.
