Outdoor Pickleball Closed for Construction
The tennis and pickleball courts at Living Memorial Park are closed for construction as of August 25, 2025. The courts are anticipated to be closed throughout September.
Individuals can play indoors in the meantime. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time.
Court Rules
- Proper attire and shoes must be worn
- No bikes or skateboards
- No pets allowed
- Please limit play to one hour when others are waiting
- Courts are open dawn to dusk and are available on a first come first serve basis outside of scheduled program times stated below.
Indoor Pickleball
Fees: The fee for the indoor/winter season which runs September 15 to April 30 will be a one-time fee of $40 per person for Brattleboro residents and $65 per person for Non-Brattleboro residents. For those who do not wish to pay the above fees, or may be visiting for a day, the fee is $5 a day for Brattleboro residents and $7 a day for non-Brattleboro Residents. Cash, cards, and checks are all accepted.
Currently, all participants over 55 years old:
• Must have a completed waiver on file with the Senior Center.
• Must have and USE their MySeniorCenter swipe card to check in at the Kiosk in the Senior Center each time they participate indoors. If you lose your card, please let Sarah know so it can be replaced at no cost.
• Must pay a daily drop in fee or a session fee. Fees can be paid online at https://vtbrattleboroweb.myvscloud.com/webtrac/web/ on in the office at the Gibson-Aiken Center.
All participants between 18 years old and 54 years old:
• Must have a completed waiver and household on file and in the system with the Brattleboro Recreation and Parks Department.
• Must pay a daily drop in fee or a session fee. Fees can be paid online at https://vtbrattleboroweb.myvscloud.com/webtrac/web/ or in the office at the Gibson-Aiken Center.
Everyone:
• Whoever sets up the courts gets to play first. The nets must be taken down at the end of play. The winners will stay on the court and split. No one will stay on the court for more than two games in a row.
• Cout Suggestion: Rally to 15 unless a large number of participants are waiting.
• If you are not on the Senior Center email list (55 years old and older) and would like to get updated and changes in the schedule, please email Sarah at [email protected]. Emails sent will come from Brattleboro Senior Meals [email protected]. Make sure you check your spam folder.
• We ask that everyone please be accountable and honest about the above. Please note going forward we will occasionally have staff stop in and ensure that everyone has signed in, have a completed waiver on file, and paid either the daily fee or the session fee.
Beginners Group: Learning the rules of play and how to score. Learning to move around the court in a balanced and safe manner. Learning how to get their serve in regularly and improving serve. Learning where to stand on the court during serves, returns, and point play. Has not yet learned how to effectively “dink”/ is learning how to “dink”. Focusing on keeping the ball in play, as opposed to trying to hit it low, hard, or placing the ball. Limited to some rallies/ can hold a short rally with players of equal ability or makes longer-lasting slow-paced rallies. Demonstrating the basic shot strokes – forehand, backhand, volley, overhead, and the serve, but has obvious weaknesses in most strokes.
Intermediate/Advanced: Knows the rules and how to re-figure the score after losing track. Generally able to get their serve in play and return most serves. Understands match strategy and tactics. Play with partners effectively, with the proper communication and good team coverage of the court. Aggressive net play and teamwork in doubles are evident. Moves to the net quickly after returning serve. Hits to the weak side of opponents somewhat regularly. Reliable serves, lobs, overheads, approach shots, and volleys, and can use spin shots with some success. Shows consistent and dependable strokes, including directional control and depth on both forehand and backhand shots. Beginning to anticipate opponent’s shots. Uses the dink shot and drop shots to slow down or change the pace of the game. Demonstrates 3rd shot strategies – drop shots, lobs, and fast-paced ground strokes. Fully understands the rules of the game and can play by them.
Indoor Pickleball Schedule
The schedule is subject to change due to school schedules, holidays, and weather.
Monday:
- 9 to 10:45 a.m. (55 years old and older. Intermediate and above)
- 10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (18 years old and older)
Tuesday:
- 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. (55 years old and older. Intermediate and above)
- 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. (18 years old and older)
- 1 to 3 p.m. (Beginner only 18 and older)
Wednesday:
- 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. (18 years old and older)
Thursday:
- 1:40 to 3 p.m. (Beginners only 18 and older)
Friday:
- 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. (55 years old and older. Intermediate and above)
- 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (18 years old and older)
