Chief's Message
Welcome to the Brattleboro Fire Department.
Since 1831, our department has been part of the fabric of this town: serving, protecting, and supporting the people who make Brattleboro such a strong and vibrant community. While much has changed over nearly two centuries, our commitment to compassion, readiness, and service has remained constant.
Today, our team of dedicated career firefighters, EMTs, and support staff responds to over 4,500 emergencies each year, including fires, medical emergencies, vehicle accidents, hazardous materials incidents, technical rescues, and more. No matter the nature of the call, our goal is simple: to provide the highest level of care and professionalism for every person who needs us.
We are proud of the relationships we’ve built and continue to build with residents, business owners, partner agencies, and visitors. Community connection is at the heart of what we do. Whether you see us at a school visit, community event, or responding in your neighborhood, know that we value every opportunity to engage and strengthen those ties.
If you’d like to learn more about our operations or meet the people behind the uniforms, I invite you to stop by Central Station or Station Two for a tour. We’re always glad to open our doors, answer questions, and show you the work we are so proud to do.
Our Town. Our People. Our Responsibility.
These words guide our decisions, our training, and our daily service. Thank you for your trust and support. It is truly an honor to serve this community. If you ever have a concern, a complaint, or even a thank you to share, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly. I’m always here to listen and support our community.
Sincerely,
Chief Jay Symonds
