Traffic Impacts

Nighttime single-lane closures will be in place Monday night through Friday morning (July 21 through July 25, 2025) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Work will begin on Vermont Route 9 (Western Avenue and High Street) and continue on Vermont Route 142 (Vernon Street) through U.S. Route 5 (Canal Street) toward the Exit 1 Interstate 91 interchange. Flaggers will be present to direct one-way alternating traffic through the work zones. Motorcycles should watch for grooved and uneven surfaces.

Parking Impacts

Street-side parking will be unavailable on Canal Street, High Street, and Western Avenue from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Friday morning (July 21 through July 25, 2025).

The contractor and Brattleboro DPW are working together to move small message boards to indicate parking restrictions for locations of work each evening. There will not be a parking ban along the street unless work is being done that night. Please see the infographic above for locations of work and parking restrictions. Construction Activities

The contractor is planning, pending final approval of their paving plan, to begin paving the first layer of pavement starting on U.S. 5 (Canal Street) at the intersection with Birge Street and progressing toward the intersection with VT 142 (Vernon Street). Once they reach the intersection they will turn around and come back toward the starting location. They will then plan to continue to pave toward the Exit 1 interchange and, once reaching that location, to turn around and pave back to the Birge Street intersection. They will then progress to side roads.

The milling operation will begin on VT 9 at the intersection of Cedar Street and progress along VT 9 (High Street) toward the center of town, turn around and come back toward the starting location. They will resume operations where they leave off and progress toward the Exit 2 interchange on VT 9 (Western Avenue) and then turn around and come back. Milling of side streets will be the last part of the operation.

Both milling and paving operations will progress with the flow of traffic. They are starting in the approximate middle of the project limits to alleviate congestion at the intersections at the ends of VT 9 and U.S. 5. Crews will have noise monitoring equipment to measure decibel levels over the course of the evening.
