Paving Project Updates for Aug. 18-23

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is providing weekly updates about the paving project in Brattleboro. The latest update provides information that was published on Aug. 15, 2025. Sign up for alerts here, or learn more about this project.

Parking Impacts

Street side parking will be unavailable and strictly enforced on Canal Street next week while crews pave the top layer of pavement and move on to placing permanent markings. From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday night through Saturday morning, parking restrictions will also be enforced in zones on Western Avenue, High Street, Main Street, and Linden Street.

Please pay attention to nightly message boards indicating parking restrictions. The contractor and Brattleboro DPW are working together to move these boards for locations of work each evening. To see alternative lots with rates and hours, please go to https://brattleboro.gov/parking.

Traffic Impacts

Nighttime single-lane closures will be in place next week on Monday night through Saturday morning from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Work will continue on Vermont Route 9 (Western Avenue and High Street), U.S. Route 5 (Canal Street and Main Street), and Vermont Route 30 (Linden Street). Flaggers will be present to direct one-way alternating traffic through multiple work zones. Motorcyclists should watch for grooved and uneven surfaces and all motorists should be aware of raised utility structures and wet paint.

Parking restrictions will be enforced during working hours. Pedestrians should watch for sidewalk detours in place on Canal Street (U.S. 5) and on Western Avenue and High Street (VT 9).

Construction Activities

• Canal Street (U.S. 5) — Crews have finished utility structure work. Multiple operations are scheduled to begin on Monday night including paving the final lift of pavement and permanent pavement markings. Motorists should be vigilant for wet paint. Pedestrians should watch for sidewalk detours.

•  Western Avenue and High Street (VT 9) — The sidewalk crew and utility structure crew work is progressing on this corridor.

•  Linden Street (VT 30) and Main Street (U.S. 5) — Paving of the first lift of pavement should be complete this week, including side streets. The structure crew will begin on these streets on Monday night, following behind the paving crew.

Crews will have noise monitoring equipment to measure decibel levels over the course of the evening.
