Paving Project Updates for Aug. 10-16
The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is providing weekly updates about the paving project in Brattleboro. The latest update provides information that was published on Aug. 8, 2025. Sign up for alerts here, or learn more about this project.
Parking Impacts
Street-side parking will be unavailable on Main Street and Linden Street from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday night through Saturday morning. Other areas where parking restrictions will be enforced are on Canal Street Monday and Tuesday nights. Friday night work zones are being limited to certain areas so as not to interfere with downtown parking for events and businesses.
Please pay attention to nightly message boards indicating parking restrictions. The contractor and Brattleboro DPW are working together to move these boards for locations of work each evening. There will not be a parking ban along the street unless work is being done that night. Please see the infographic below for locations of work and parking restrictions. Traffic Impacts
Nighttime single-lane closures will be in place next week on Monday night through Saturday morning from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Work will continue on Vermont Route 9 (Western Avenue and High Street), U.S. Route 5 (Canal Street and Main Street), and Vermont Route 30 (Linden Street). Flaggers will be present to direct one-way alternating traffic through multiple work zones. Motorcyclists should watch for grooved and uneven surfaces and all motorists should be aware of raised utility structures in the travel lanes and shoulders.
Parking restrictions will be enforced during working hours. Pedestrians should watch for sidewalk detours in place on Canal Street (U.S. 5) and on Western Avenue and High Street (VT 9).
Construction Activities
• Canal Street (U.S. 5) — Crews are finishing up utility structure work and anticipate being done with this work on Tuesday night next week. Work on ADA compliant sidewalk ramps will begin on Monday night.
• Western Avenue and High Street (VT 9) — The leveling layer or "shim" pavement has been placed on VT 9 with the exception of some side roads that should be finished up this week. Once the sidewalk crew has finished all ramps on Canal Street, they will begin work here.
• Linden Street (VT 30) and Main Street (U.S. 5) — The contractor will be prioritizing this corridor next. Milling and pothole repair will be completed this week. Paving of the leveling layer of pavement will begin Monday night and continue through Friday night. The structure crew will follow behind this paving crew and begin to work on the utility structures in these areas.
Crews will have noise monitoring equipment to measure decibel levels over the course of the evening.
