Solid Waste Program
Solid Waste Program Project
Background
The Town of Brattleboro has maintained a municipal contract with Casella (formerly TTT Trucking) for waste collection and disposal since 2009. The contract, which covers the collection of trash, recyclables, and organics from residential properties, expires on June 30, 2024.
In February 2024, the Selectboard initiated a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process to seek interested parties for future solid waste services. The RFQ was sent to ten firms and advertised publicly. Casella responded, and contract negotiations have commenced.
Now the Town is seeking public input on the future of the program. The community is encouraged to weigh in via the online survey and can apply to join one of the advisory groups outlined below.
Public Survey
Provide input on the future of the program by taking the online survey. Please complete this survey by Friday, May 17 at 12 p.m.
Advisory Groups
We are looking for those served by the current solid waste program who can evaluate potential options for the future of the service. There are four advisory groups planned, with 5-7 members each:
- Representative Town Meeting Members
- Residents of a West Brattleboro neighborhood
- Residents of a Downtown (or nearby) neighborhood
- Renters
Those who are interested can apply here. The groups will be meeting two times in May. There is a $25 stipend available for participants.
