Local History

Brattleboro was chartered in 1753. The records in the town offices are incomplete for the earliest years of the town's existence and we do not have records going back that far. In 1832 an effort was made to preserve the records that were in manuscript form and still legible by transcribing them into a record book. That preserved some town records from 1781 forward. 

The Brattleboro Historical Society is a good source for information. There are other sources of local history as well; see links for both the local history and geneology room at the Brooks Memorial Library.
