Paving Project Updates – June 19, 2026

Crews will work overnight from Friday, June 26 to Saturday, June 27, on U.S. Route 5 and Vermont Route 9.
Night work is scheduled for next week on U.S. 5 beginning north of the Interstate 91 overpass at the intersection with Bennett Drive to the project limits in Putney for the application of pavement markings on side roads.
Traffic Impacts
Vermont Route 9: (Night Work)
Flaggers will control alternating traffic patterns through single-lane closures on VT 9 between the Interstate 91 Exit 2 interchange and the Edward Heights intersection in West Brattleboro. Monday night through Saturday morning, work zones will be active from 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. No street-side parking will be available in these areas of VT 9 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Saturday morning.
Pedestrians
Sidewalk work has begun on VT 9. Passable gravel ramps are in place to facilitate through access and new concrete is scheduled to be placed. Where available, sidewalks will be detoured to adjacent sidewalks and ramps will be installed where detours are not available while concrete is curing. Please exercise caution when navigating the work zone.
U.S. Route 5: Brattleboro to Putney (Day and Night Work)
Single-lane closures will be in place on U.S. Route 5 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Flaggers will control alternating traffic patterns through the work zone. A mobile work zone is also scheduled for the application of final pavement markings. Motorists are advised to watch for wet paint.
From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Friday morning, single-lane closures will be in place on side roads for the application of permanent pavement markings. Flaggers and uniformed traffic officers will assist traffic through the work zones.
U.S. Route 5: Brattleboro (Night Work)
Single-lane closures will be in place on U.S. Route 5 from the intersection with Noah's Lane through the Exit 3 roundabout to the Old Ferry Road intersection. From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Saturday morning, flaggers will assist traffic through the work zone - directing alternating traffic patterns as needed. Motorcyclists should watch for grooved and uneven surfaces.
Construction Activities
Vermont Route 9: (Night Work)
Crews have begun to work on sidewalks and this work is anticipated to continue next week. They have been focusing on the eastbound side of the road and are planning to place concrete in these locations before continuing to demolish sidewalks in new areas.
U.S. Route 5: Brattleboro to Putney (Day and Night Work)
Crews will continue to pave driveway aprons next week and work on the road shoulders. Layout and application of final pavement markings, both on the mainline roadway and on side roads is also scheduled and motorists should watch for wet paint. Side road markings are scheduled to be placed at night.
NOTE: The installation of center line rumble strips is planned in the coming weeks. Rumble strips will be installed beginning where the speed limit changes to 50 mph headed north in Dummerston and will end at Houghton Road. Installation will resume north of East West Road and will end north of Johnson's Curve Road where the speed limit goes back down to 40 mph. Gaps will be in place for each side road and for houses located within 100 feet of the center line.
U.S. Route 5: Brattleboro (Night Work)
Structure work will continue on U.S. 5 from Noah's Lane intersection to the Exit 3 roundabout. Milling will continue through the roundabout to Old Ferry Road, traffic volumes and weather permitting.
