Tai Chi, Yoga & Special Events at the Senior Center

The Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department Senior Center will be hosting two new ongoing classes starting in February. Instructor Matina Steves is offering an afternoon Tai Chi class on Tuesdays from 3 to 3:45 p.m. and a Yoga class on Thursdays 3 to 3:45 p.m. Both classes are $5 for Senior Center members.

The Senior Center is also hosting several other special events this month. Our February Birthday Luncheon for those 60 years old and older will be held on Feb. 12 beginning at noon.

Our Valentines Lunch event will be Feb. 13 starting at 11:45 a.m. We will celebrate with hors d’oeuvres, flowers, chocolate, and music! We ask that everyone who wishes to attend either lunch make a reservation by calling 802-257-1236 or 802-257-7570. Please notify staff in advance when you make your reservation on whether it is your birthday month or not and if you are bringing a guest. The suggested donation is $6 per person.

The Senior Center and the Vermont Jazz Center have teamed up to present a jazz listening hour on Fridays from 2 to 3 p.m. starting on Friday, Feb. 20 at the Senior Center in the Gibson-Aiken Building. Across eight weeks, Jazz 101 embraces Jazz's development, discussing in most basic terms the fundamental principles, key moments, and unforgettable characters of Jazz music. No prerequisites, no homework, no test, no paper — just come to listen and learn. Listening will be guided by instructor Ben Young, jazz historian and director of the Jazz History Database. The Jazz 101 curriculum was launched 25 years ago at Jazz at Lincoln Center. All are welcome. There is no charge for this program.

For more information call the Senior Center Office at 802-257-7570. The Senior Center's hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
