Rec & Parks Youth Programs Starting in February

The Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department is offering several youth programs that will begin this February. You can register online here or in person Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Gibson-Aiken Center.

Youth Indoor Soccer 

Youth Indoor Soccer begins the week of February 26, 2024. Come on in from the cold and play some soccer! Children will be divided into small co-ed teams to play pick-up games. Scores will not be kept. Shin guards and sneakers are required. The focus will be on having fun! Don’t forget to bring water. Space is limited so don’t wait to register! 

This program runs from February 26 to March 27 and will take place in the Gibson-Aiken Center, 3rd Floor Gym. Youth Indoor Soccer will be broken down like so: 

  • Grades K & 1st: Monday 5 to 6 p.m.  
  • Grades 2nd & 3rd: Tuesday 5 to 6 p.m.  
  • Grades 4th – 6th: Wednesday 5 to 6 p.m.

The fee is $20 for Brattleboro residents and $35 for non-Brattleboro residents. 

 

Youth Chess  

Youth Chess classes are scheduled from February 16 through April 26 and will take place at the Gibson-Aiken Center. The intermediate class will run from 3:20 to 4:20 p.m. and the beginner class will run from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The fee is $55 for Brattleboro residents and $70 for non-Brattleboro residents. 

 

Youth Fencing 

Reily Mumpton will offer another Youth Fencing session for those 7-12 years old at the Gibson-Aiken Center, 207 Main Street.  

In this class, you will explore an introduction to Western Martial Arts and the forms of combat pursued and developed within Medieval Europe. Students will learn the basics of combat, self-defense, and the history of swordplay within medieval society. Please bring comfortable, clean-soled shoes, and prepare to lunge into action!  

The class will be offered from February 1 through March 7, 2024. Reily will be offering two class times for participants to pick from. The first class option will be from 3:45 to 5 p.m. and the second will be 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. The fees are $110 for Brattleboro residents and $125 for non-Brattleboro residents.  

Please note space is limited and this camp fills at 8 participants.
