Paving Updates – Oct. 9, 2026

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is providing regular updates about construction projects in Brattleboro. The latest update from VTrans was published on Oct. 9, 2026.

No work will be conducted on the project from Noon Friday, October 9 until crews return to work Tuesday, October 13 at 6 a.m. in observance of Indigenous Peoples' Day.

 

Traffic Impacts

Vermont Route 9: (Night Work) — Single-lane closures with alternating traffic patterns controlled by flaggers are planned from the Exit 2 interchange to the Edward Heights intersection from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Saturday morning. No street-side parking will be available through the work zone. Motorists should watch for wet paint.

U.S. Route 5: Brattleboro (Night Work) — From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Saturday morning, single-lane closures will be in place on U.S. 5 from the intersection with Vermont Avenue through the Exit 3 roundabout to the Old Ferry Road intersection. Flaggers and uniformed traffic officers will assist traffic through alternating traffic patterns. Motorists should watch for wet paint.

U.S. Route 5: Brattleboro-Putney (Day Work) — Tuesday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., single-lane closures will be in place as needed on U.S. 5 on the bridge over Interstate 91 between Bennett Drive and Old Ferry Road. Flaggers will control alternating traffic patterns through the work zones.

Downtown Brattleboro (Night Work) — A mobile work zone is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday night through Saturday morning. Uniformed Traffic Officers will provide a follow-along vehicle and assist with short lane closures and alternating traffic patterns as needed.

 

Construction Activities

Final work items including vacuum truck clean out of structures are scheduled throughout ALL the project limits.

 

Vermont Route 9: (Night Work) — Crews will continue painting as the weather and temperatures allow and as they are freed up on U.S. 5. Guardrail and sign installation have been completed through this area.

U.S. Route 5: Brattleboro (Night Work) — Permanent pavement marking application will continue on U.S. 5. In addition, some night work operations are scheduled for Bridge 8 (over the West River near Spring Tree Road intersection) and Bridge 10B (the I-91 overpass between Old Ferry Road and Bennett Drive) and work zones may be present for repairs, milling, and paving.

U.S. Route 5: Brattleboro-Putney (Day Work) — Work on the I-91 overpass between Old Ferry Road and Bennett Drive are planned to finish during the day in the next week or two. Paving operations for this will be done at night once repairs are complete to avoid traffic delays.
