New Parking System Begins Nov. 21
The Town of Brattleboro will be transitioning to a new parking system beginning November 21, 2024, marking a significant shift in how parking is managed. Key features include:
• Kiosks: Use the kiosks throughout town to pay with coins or credit card. No smartphone required.
• App: Use the Park Smarter app, which is available on mobile devices from the Google Play Store for Android or Apple Store for iOS. The app is especially helpful for those who regularly park downtown.
• Text: Text “Pay” to 77447. The new Pay by Text option is a faster alternative for visitors who would like to park quickly, without needing to download the app.
• As part of this transition, a fee for parking will be implemented on Sundays, starting on November 24, 2024.
The fee for short-term parking options, including on-street parking and the Harmony and Prestons lots, will be set at $1.50 per hour. The fee for long-term parking options, including the Harris, High Grove, and Spring Street lots as well as the Transportation Center, will be set at $0.55 per hour.

Why is the Town of Brattleboro making changes to the parking system?
Individual meter poles are easily damaged, time consuming to maintain, and make snow removal from the downtown more difficult (see examples here). The State of Vermont awarded the Town a generous grant that covered 80% of the cost of pole removal and kiosk acquisition. The remaining 20% of the project cost came from parking revenue, not from property taxes. The new system will expedite snow removal in the winter and help downtown looking its best all year long.
The transition away from Pay & Display to Pay by Plate is intended to keep you headed in the “right direction,” toward your destination. No more backtracking back to your car! Remember to enter your plate first, then arrange for payment, and off you go.
