Heat Advisory Starting June 18, 2024
Hot temperatures combined with high humidity are forecasted to occur Tuesday through Thursday, with the most oppressive conditions on Wednesday and Thursday. There is a great potential for this heat wave to continue into Friday and Saturday. The National Weather Service is predicting temperatures in the upper 90s and a heat index over 100. Please stay safe, and check on your family, the elderly, and neighbors.
The following locations in town can be utilized for cooling sites:
- The Senior Center will be open daily 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., except for Wednesday, when it is closed for the holiday.
- The pool at Living Memorial Park will be open daily from 1 p.m. – 8 p.m. Visit Brattleboro.gov/Pool for the complete schedule.
- Brooks Memorial Library will be open Tuesday 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., Wednesday closed for the holiday, Thursday 10 am. – 1 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- The Central Fire Station is open Tuesday 8 am. – 4 p.m, and on Thursday and Friday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The following are steps to stay safe in these conditions:
- Stay indoors, in air-conditioned spaces, as much as possible, and limit your exposure to sun and high humidity.
- If air conditioning is not available, stay on the lowest floor and out of the sunshine.
- Dress in loose-fitting, light colored, and breathable clothing.
- Protect your face and head by wearing a wide-brimmed hat.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Never leave kids or pets alone in vehicles.
- Avoid strenuous work during the warmest part of the day. Take frequent breaks in the shade or a cool space.
