Hardy Heart Award
The Hardy Heart Award is established in honor of Chief Norma Hardy, the first Black female Chief of Police in Vermont and a respected leader whose career has exemplified compassion, courage, and service. This award recognizes and carries forward the values she demonstrated throughout her tenure. The Hardy Heart Award is more than recognition — it is a reminder that the most meaningful acts of service are often the quietest ones. It honors a legacy of leadership grounded not just in authority, but in empathy, dignity, and human connection.
The Hardy Heart Award recognizes Brattleboro first responders who go above and beyond their duties to demonstrate:
- Compassion in moments of crisis
- Selflessness in service to others
- Courage in difficult or dangerous situations
- Humanity in law enforcement, fire, EMS, and emergency response
This award aims to highlight the heart behind the badge and celebrate actions that build trust, healing, and connection within the community.
