Brattleboro Town Clerk's Office Will Close Wednesdays Starting May 13
The Brattleboro Town Clerk’s Office will be adjusting its public hours, effective May 13, 2026. The office will be closed to the public every Wednesday.
The new public hours for the Brattleboro Town Clerk's Office will be:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Closed Daily: 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
Closed to the Public: All day Wednesday
This change is necessary due to the significant volume of work handled by the Town Clerk’s Office. Closing one day a week will provide staff with uninterrupted time to focus on day-to-day administrative tasks, vital records processing, record maintenance, and larger ongoing projects.
“Our commitment to serving the public remains our highest priority,” said Town Clerk Hilary Francis. “By dedicating Wednesday as a day for focused work, we can ensure that we’re keeping up with the growing demands on our office and maintaining the high standard of service the community expects.”
Staff will still be working on Wednesdays and will continue to reply to voicemails and vital records requests within three business days. Those looking to drop off documents can use the secure Town Business drop box located in the Municipal Center parking lot. Land records will still be cashiered on the day and time they are received.
Many services can be accessed anytime online at Brattleboro.gov, including information about dog licensing, vital records requests, and land record research dating back to 1816.
On Wednesdays, for immediate certified copies of birth or death certificates, or to be issued a marriage license, residents are encouraged to visit a neighboring Town Clerk’s office:
• Dummerston: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (802-257-1496)
• Guilford: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (802-254-6857)
• Putney: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (802-387-5862)
• Vernon: 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. (802-257-0292)
The Town Clerk's Office appreciates the public's understanding and cooperation as it makes this necessary adjustment to its schedule. Updated hours and information will be posted prominently on signage at the Municipal Center, the Town of Brattleboro website, and the Town Clerk's specific web pages.
