BFD Press Release - Structure Fire on Glen Street
At 8:58 a.m., the Brattleboro Fire Department was dispatched to 107 Glen Street for a report of smoke coming from a residential mobile home. Fire Inspector Steve Nelson was performing a rental inspection in the area and was the first unit to arrive (9:01 a.m.). Fire Inspector Nelson found dark smoke coming from 107 Glen Street and requested a second alarm assignment be struck.
Engine One was the first arriving fire apparatus at 9:02 a.m. Lieutenant Aither (Engine One officer) advised there was a significant fire in the rear of the building and that a 250lb propane tank had begun venting (with fire), causing direct fire impingement on the neighboring mobile home at 109 Glen Street. At 9:08 a.m., 107 Glen Street was reported to be fully involved.
At 9:10 a.m., Chief Symonds assumed command. As further Brattleboro Fire Department units arrived, the crews used multiple handlines to contain the fire to the units at 107 and 109 Glen Street.
At 10:14 a.m., the fire was reported to be under control. Both 107 and 109 Glen Street have significant fire damage. Two occupants from the fire were transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital for medical evaluation.
The fires at 107 and 109 Glen Street displaced five (5) occupants and two pets. The American Red Cross and Tripark Cooperative Housing Corporation will work with the displaced occupants to offer temporary housing and other housing needs.
No firefighters were injured, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
