August State Primary Election Absentee Ballots Available
August State Primary elections will be held on August 11, 2026. There are three major ways to vote in these elections.
1. Absentee Ballot
Absentee ballots for the March elections must be requested.
• Voting absentee by mail: Anyone wishing to vote absentee may apply for an absentee ballot until 5 p.m. on Monday, August 10, although we recommend doing so as soon as possible to allow for mail delivery time. Absentee ballots for this election must be requested. Ballots can be requested through the Vermont Voter Portal, https://vote.vermont.gov, or by contacting the Town Clerk’s office at 802-251-8157 or [email protected]. Mailing of requested absentee ballots began on June 24.
• Picking up an absentee ballot: Only the voter may pick up their ballot from the Town Clerk’s Office.
• Returning your absentee ballot: Ballots can be returned by mail, dropped off in advance of the election in the drop box in the Municipal Center parking lot or in the Town Clerk’s office, or returned to the polls on Election Day. When returning voted ballots, please pay careful attention to the instructions included with your ballots. Failing to follow the instructions may result in your ballot being defective. All voted ballots must be received by the Clerk before the polls close on Election Day, August 11, by 7 p.m. to be counted.
2. In-Person Early Voting
In-person early voting will begin on Monday, July 13 at the Brattleboro Town Clerk’s Office. This option is available through Monday, August 10 at 5 p.m., any time the office is open to the public. There must be two election officials in the office for us to provide this service.
