One Brattleboro Member Featured in VTDigger
Justin Johnston's lived experience — from an unstable upbringing, the throes of a substance use disorder, incarcaration, and recovery — informs his new role as a Community Resource Specialist with the Brattleboro Police Department and as a member of One Brattleboro.
A recently published article in VTDigger explores Justin's past and what led him toward the concept of seeking compassionate accountability.
“I view recovery not as just being sober, but working every single day to show up for myself, my family and community, to be honest, to have integrity, to challenge my irrational thoughts and form new ones, all while recognizing I’m not perfect,” Justin said in the VTDigger report. "If I can be hired by police, somebody might see that and think, ‘Maybe my past isn’t going to hold me back forever.’”
