Become a Library Insider with Behind-the-Scenes Tours of Brooks Memorial Library

There’s a lot more that goes on at Brooks Memorial Library than meets the eye! The Board of Library Trustees invite members of the public to sneak a peek into special departments through self-guided “insider” tours Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025 from 6 to 8 p.m. at 224 Main St. in Brattleboro.

Staff will share information behind some of the unique art and special collections and provide insight into library processes. Attendees will find out how a book becomes a library book, and just how far the Interlibrary Loan Department will go to borrow materials. Get a glimpse into what goes into making this essential community resource a dynamic center of culture, information, education and social connection.

From 6:45 to 7:15 p.m. in the Main Reading Room, Board President Ann Varilly will present an update on the library’s strategic plan and director, Starr LaTronica, will provide an introduction the grant-funded Capital Improvement Project.

“Let us know what you love about the library, what we do well and what we could do better,” said LaTronica. “We’ll all learn something new—that’s what the library does best!”

There will be pizza, and other goodies provided by the Friends of Brooks Memorial Library. Everyone will receive a limited-edition Library Insider button, and those who visit all nine spaces will have a chance to enter a drawing for a gift certificate to a local bookstore.

The event is free, open to the public, and accessible to people in wheelchairs.
