Read Interaction's Community Safety Report
Brattleboro administration, the Brattleboro Police Department, and individual Selectboard members have been in ongoing discussions with staff from the nonprofit Interaction since the time the community conduct ordinance was considered to see if there were ways for a restorative justice approach to help address disruptive behaviors and child safety in the downtown.
Interaction worked with The Creative Discourse Group to create a proposal to bring the community together to develop an updated safety plan that takes into account a range of community perspectives and has broad support.
On July 21, 2026, Interaction joined the Selectboard during a regular meeting to present findings from its report, Brattleboro Community Safety: Multiple Paths Towards Safety.
Interaction, formally Youth Services, is a Brattleboro nonprofit that serves children, adolescents, young adults, and families throughout Windham County. Its mission is to strengthen families, build resilience, and serve as a catalyst for positive change by helping individuals develop the skills and support systems they need to overcome challenges and achieve long-term success.
